I often find myself getting off track, slipping back into old habits, and losing awareness. Life can get messy pretty quickly when I’m not paying attention. But I’m grateful that I always have the daily word in my back pocket. Talking with my mom about what we both read and learned keeps me grounded. Together, we’ve been able to stay in the light of God’s presence, receiving forgiveness, cleansing, and healing.

God’s word is like mixing soap with water. The soap suds cleanse your mind and perspective, and you start to realize that maturity is like cleaning something thoroughly. Growing up is akin to cleaning up. This understanding helps me see, understand, and apply God’s word in my life.

Remember His word, and when you find yourself in a jam, reach for His teachings. Before you know it, things will start to change for the better, and you’ll notice how much you’ve cleaned up because it’s a dirty world out there.

1 John 1:7 says, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” This reminds me that staying in the light is a continuous process of purification.

Isaiah 61:10 tells us, “I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness.” Just as clean clothes make us feel fresh and renewed, God’s salvation and righteousness do the same for our souls.

In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Following Him keeps us out of darkness and in the light where we can see clearly and walk securely.

Growing up spiritually is much like the life of a troubleshooter. A troubleshooter identifies problems and fixes them. We do the same when we apply God’s word to our lives. His word shows us where we’re falling short, and how we can clean up our act. It’s a process, but each step brings us closer to living fully in His light.

So remember, when life gets messy, turn to God’s teachings. They’ll guide you, cleanse you, and help you grow. Before you know it, you’ll notice the changes, and you’ll see how much cleaner your life has become
