Today, I am celebrating with a heart full of gratitude and admiration as I pay tribute to the man who has shaped me into the person I am today – my father. Words alone cannot express the depth of my appreciation for him, but I will do my best to convey just how blessed I feel to have the best father in the world.
From the very beginning, my father has been my guiding light, my mentor, and my inspiration. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand his unwavering determination and resilience as he navigated through life’s challenges. As a black man coming of age in the tumultuous decades of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, he faced obstacles that many would deem insurmountable. Yet, he rose above them with grace and strength, setting a standard of excellence that is truly hard to top.
Whether it was excelling as the top quarterback and basketball player at Alabama A&M and Alabama at Huntsville college, receiving scholarships, or becoming a district manager for a Fortune 500 company, a Deacon, Inventor, Family Leader, my father’s achievements speak volumes about his character and perseverance. He not only succeeded in his professional endeavors but also excelled as a loving husband and devoted father, all while blazing a trail, buying a 2- story Home for the whole family in New Jersey and moving to Chicago with little assistance but his unyielding faith in the Lord.
One of the greatest lessons my father has taught me is the importance of diligence and awareness. From a young age, he taught me to approach challenges from all angles, to consider every perspective, and to never shy away from hard work. His mantra of “top, bottom, side, and side, repeat, rest, and consider, then one more time” instilled in me a sense of thoroughness and attention to detail that has served me well in every aspect of my life.
Moreover, my father has always had an uncanny ability to recognize and nurture my strengths. Whether it was encouraging me to play to my advantage on the basketball court or gifting me with my first starter studio equipment, he has always been one of my biggest supporter, propelling me towards my dreams and aspirations.
Today, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my father for all that he has done for me. He is not just a role model; he is the epitome of resilience, integrity, and love. I am forever grateful for his presence in my life, and I thank God every day for blessing me with such an extraordinary father.
Dad, know that I love you more than words can say. You are my hero, my mentor, and my guiding light. Thank you for everything.
