Growing up with a father who was the star quarterback in high school and gained a scholarship with Alabama A&M and became a star basketball player was like living in the pages of a legendary sports story. My dad, with his Lincoln Continental, diamond ring, and impeccable suits, was the epitome of success. His life was a testament to hard work and love, not just from his own efforts but also thanks to my grandmother Pearl. She made sure he had everything he needed to succeed, despite not having much to spare. Her support was unwavering, and it was her love that propelled him to greatness.

My mom, a smart, beautiful black woman, was a tomboy with an infectious spirit, always surrounded by her close-knit group of friends from college. When she met my dad, it was clear they were meant to be at that divine time. They balanced each other perfectly—his star power and her grounded nature. Their college life was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments.

When I came along, it was like stepping into a world of shared joy and love. My mom’s best friends, who were also my godmothers, were always there. They became a second family to me, their bond with my mom making them an integral part of my life from the very beginning. Growing up, I was passed around the stadium and the band as a baby, with every classic game and tailgate becoming a cherished memory.

Our heritage at Alabama A&M wasn’t just about football or basketball; it was about community, love, and shared experiences. Each game and every tailgate represented a piece of that legacy, woven together by the incredible support of my family and their friends. That legacy, with its roots deeply embedded in Alabama A&M, is something I carry with pride and gratitude.
